Representing All Types of Facility Workers

Los Angeles is home to an incredibly wide range of workplaces, and facility workers serve every single one of them. From the entertainment studios of Burbank and Culver City to the sprawling hospital campuses of the UCLA Health and Cedars-Sinai systems, from the luxury hotels lining Wilshire Boulevard to the massive event venues like SoFi Stadium and the Crypto.com Arena, LA's facility workers operate in some of the most demanding environments in the state. We have represented workers from across this diverse landscape, and we understand the specific conditions, hazards, and pressures that come with maintaining these kinds of facilities.

We represent Los Angeles facility workers in all roles, including:

  • Janitorial and custodial staff in office buildings, schools, healthcare facilities, and entertainment venues
  • Maintenance and repair technicians responsible for infrastructure, systems, and equipment across LA's massive commercial and institutional properties
  • Groundskeepers and outdoor maintenance workers managing the city's parks, campuses, and private properties
  • Security personnel protecting facilities and people across LA's wide range of industries
  • Facility and property managers who oversee day-to-day operations and face many of the same on-site risks as their teams
  • Porters, utility workers, and support staff serving Los Angeles's hospitality, healthcare, education, and entertainment sectors

Work Injuries That May Qualify You for Workers' Comp

Facility work is physically demanding, no matter where you do it, and injuries can strike suddenly or develop gradually over months and years of demanding work. Overexertion injuries are among the most common we see in facility workers, but we also see many cases that involve slips, trips, and falls on wet floors and uneven outdoor surfaces. However, if you were hurt in any way while completing a task related to your job, you could qualify for workers’ compensation benefits.

Work injuries we commonly see in facility worker claims include:

  • Back, neck, and shoulder injuries from overexertion, repetitive motion, or heavy lifting
  • Slips, trips, and falls, including falls from ladders and accidents on slick or uneven surfaces
  • Chemical exposure injuries, including respiratory conditions, skin burns, and eye damage
  • Repetitive motion injuries such as tendonitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, and joint damage
  • Traumatic injuries, including fractures, lacerations, and head injuries
  • Occupational illness resulting from prolonged exposure to hazardous materials or biological substances

Not sure whether your situation qualifies? That is exactly what your free consultation is for. We can review the details of your injury and give you a straight answer about your options.

What Happens If Your Claim Was Denied

A denied workers' compensation claim is not the end of the road. Insurance companies and employers deny valid claims every day, counting on injured workers to accept the decision and walk away. We are here to stop that from happening to you. Our LA facility worker injury lawyers handle denied claims and appeals regularly, and we know how to challenge a denial and prepare a compelling case on your behalf. Whether your claim was denied outright, your benefits were cut short, or a dispute has stalled your case, we are ready to step in and fight for the outcome you deserve.

Benefits in a Workers’ Comp Claim

California's workers' compensation system can provide financial relief after a workplace injury, and we will work hard to secure as many benefits as you need.

Benefits that may be available to you include:

  • Medical treatment coverage — Doctor visits, specialist care, physical therapy, surgery, and medications covered at no cost to you
  • Temporary disability benefits — Partial wage replacement while your injury prevents you from working
  • Permanent disability benefits — Compensation for lasting impairments that affect your ability to work long term
  • Supplemental job displacement benefits — Retraining vouchers if you are unable to return to your previous role
  • Death benefits — Financial support for eligible dependents in the event of a fatal work-related injury or illness

Workers' Comp FAQ

  • Am I Eligible for Workers’ Compensation?

In California, all employees are eligible for workers’ compensation with very few exceptions. If you are classified as an “employee” (rather than an “independent contractor”), you are eligible to receive benefits. This is true regardless of how many employees your employer has, how many hours you work, how much you make, whether you work part-time or full-time, or whether you are a seasonal worker. Additionally, undocumented workers are also eligible for workers’ compensation granted they meet all other eligibility requirements. In contrast, independent contractors and certain other workers, including some volunteers, household workers who are employed by a family member, and others, are not able to file for workers’ compensation benefits.

  • Do independent contractors get workers’ compensation in California?

No, most independent contractors are not covered by workers’ compensation insurance that is provided by their employer. The law does not require most employers to offer this sort of employment benefit to independent contractors. To get workers’ comp as an independent contractor, you will usually have to purchase a policy on your own.

  • Can't I Just File for Workers' Compensation on My Own?

Filing for workers' compensation on your own increases the chances that your claim will be denied. One small misstep can prevent you from obtaining the compensation you need for your injuries. In addition, the process is usually complex and tedious, especially for someone with no workers' compensation law experience. It is extremely advantageous that you seek reliable and experienced legal guidance for your claim.

  • My Employer Said That I’m an Independent Contractor, Not a Regular Employee, so I Can’t Get Benefits. Is This True?

You’re not necessarily an independent contractor by law if the nature of your job doesn’t fit the description, an attorney may help analyze your situation and guide you in this matter. There are high chances of contractors being eligible for workers’ compensation benefits, so it’s always worth trying.

  • What Can I Expect from the Workers' Compensation Process?

As soon as you reach out to us for help, we will assign you a full-time case manager and attorney. An application will be filed with the Workers' Compensation Appeals Board (WCAB) on your behalf. We will get started on your case immediately to help you receive the medical care you need. If we are unable to receive a fair settlement from the insurance company, we are ready and willing to take your case to trial. After a few months, you will most likely give a deposition. One of our highly experienced California workers' comp lawyers will prepare you and stand at your side the entire time. You don't even have to attend court hearings! One of our trained hearing officers or attorneys can attend on your behalf.
