Even with the pandemic, we can still make California a better place to work.
Viviana Santiago, an Associate Attorney at Pacific Workers’, the Lawyers for Injured Workers, has been invited to be one of the panelists for the next convention of the California Applicants’ Attorneys Association (CAAA).
The “Unconventional: CAAA’s 2020 Virtual Summer Convention” will be held from June 25 to 28, 2020, and Santiago will be participating along with other three panelists on “Death Benefits 101”, scheduled for June 25.
Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the event will be virtual.
“It is an honor to be asked, this will be my second year doing it. I really enjoyed last year, it is a good way to really know about the topic and share with other practitioners”, said Santiago. She outlined that this type of event allows participants to learn about new cases, new laws, and new issues relevant to their practice.
“I also like the aspect of having other panelists that you learn from and you check in with.”
CAAA is a non-profit organization founded in 1966 and dedicated to helping Californians injured workers. Through conventions and seminars, they offer an understanding of the current laws and acceptable practices to more than 1200 members statewide, such as attorneys, physicians, employers, and insurances.
Santiago joined Pacific Workers’ last March. She comes from an immigrant family and that is what motivated her to work mostly with Spanish speakers. Since she started practicing, she has done applicants’ work representing injured workers.
“It has been a good fit for me because the kind of work we do is advocacy and it involves a lot of client interaction, which I like, and you also get to learn some of the medicine behind the injuries, how to value the cases”, she said. Santiago graduated cum laude from Duke University and received her law degree from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law.
